After the previous conferences in Madrid (2009, 2011 and 2016) and in Campinas, Brazil (2013) – organized by the ICONO14 Scientific Association (Spain) in collaboration with the Complutense University of Madrid and UNICAMP -, the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, the Transdisciplinary Research Centre “Culture, Space and Memory” (CITCEM) and ICONO14 have the pleasure to announce Porto (Portugal) as the city that will held, between January 25th and 27th 2017, the 5th conference of the event.
Creative Cities 2017 aims to continue as a sharing space for knowledge and experiences within the creative and innovative solutions for urban space. Congregating scientific, artistic, philosophical, political or anthropological perspectives (among others), proceeding from several contexts and cultures, the main goal of the event is to create ideal conditions for a broad, original and productive analysis of what the city means for human life.
About the event
Cities are one of the greatest manifestations of human beings: they are spaces build to live and progress as persons, as groups, and as a unit in itself, in a quest to reach the goals that identify us the most as a rational, emotional and social species. The city is the crystallization of Man’s creative activity, the solution to the problems that appear in daily life and the expression of humble and distinguished actions of human culture. It is content and continent, activity and rest, place of meetings and goodbyes, of solitude and multitude, of noise and silence, of stars over the roofs. In it all sciences, the meaning of every perspectives, the desire of all human achievements and the solidarity of all generosity converge. It is a constructive exercise of fluid, flexible and plural creativity. In order to move forward, the city demands imagination, work, management, coherence, interactivity, collaborative spirit, empathy and joy to who inhabit it.
The Creative Cities International Conference is an event conceived and organized by the Scientific Association ICONO14 (Spain), which aims to approach innovative actions conducted within cities by all sorts of agents (public, private, governmental, non-governmental, individuals and collectives). It intends to be a presentation and discussion space for perspectives and solutions on different challenges related to urban contexts, for exploring different resources and possibilities for major and minor world cities.
After four previous conferences of significant success (2009, 2011 and 2016 in Madrid; 2013 in Campinas, Brazil), the 5th Creative Cities International Conference will be held in Porto (Portugal) between January 25-27, 2017. It will be co-organized by the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, by CITCEM – Transdisciplinary Research Centre “Culture, Space and Memory” and by the ICONO14 Scientific Association. This 5th conference aims to maintain and extend the multidisciplinary and multicultural debate that, under this format, has existed since 2009 and that has involved participants and assistants from all over the world in the construction and sharing of a plural, crosscut and diversified debate on the characteristics, difficulties, successes and several paths performed by different types and scales of cities. In a moment where Porto assumes itself as a European and international destination of great relevance, we intend to turn it as well into the centre of this scientific and cultural interchange of origins and destinies for the life that defines every city.
