V Creative Cities International Conference
After the previous conferences in Madrid (2009, 2011 and 2016) and in Campinas, Brazil (2013) – organized by the ICONO14 Scientific Association (Spain) in collaboration with the Complutense University of Madrid and UNICAMP -, the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, the Transdisciplinary Research Centre “Culture, Space and Memory” (CITCEM) and ICONO14 have the pleasure to announce Porto (Portugal) as the city that will held, between January 25th and 27th 2017, the 5th conference of the event.
Creative Cities 2017 aims to continue as a sharing space for knowledge and experiences within the creative and innovative solutions for urban space. Congregating scientific, artistic, philosophical, political or anthropological perspectives (among others), proceeding from several contexts and cultures, the main goal of the event is to create ideal conditions for a broad, original and productive analysis of what the city means for human life.
Speakers
Francesco Bandarin is the UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture. He is Professor of Urban Planning and Conservation at the University IUAV of Venice (currently on leave).
From 2000 to 2010 he was Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and Secretary of the World Heritage Convention. From 2010 to 2014 he served as Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for Culture. In October 2015 he was re-appointed in this position for an interim period.
In 2014, he was appointed President of the Jury of the Venice Architecture Biennale, curated by Rem Koolhaas and President of the Jury of the First Shenzen Creative Design Award (SCDA).
He is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal City, Culture and Society, published by Elsevier.
He is President of the Italian Association of Historic Cities (ANCSA), member of the Visiting Committee of the Getty Conservation Institute in Los Angeles and member of the Steering Committee of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
His recent publications include: The Historic Urban Landscape: Managing Heritage in an Urban Century, 2012 and Reconnecting the City. The Historic Urban Landscape Approach and the Future of Urban Heritage, 2015, both published by Wiley-Blackwell.
Carlos Abrunhosa de Brito was born in Porto in 1964. He has a BA in Firm Administration and Management, for the Catholic Portuguese University and a post-graduation in Industrial and Firm Economics, for the University of Minho.
Presently he is the President of the board of ADDICT – Agency for the Development of Creative Industries.
He also assumes currently the position of executive Administrator of the Talent group.
He is a lecturer in the Marketing Administration Portuguese Institute, in subjects and fields such as Economy and Management.
He is a member of the board of the Commercial Association of Porto.
From April 2013 until April 2015 he was Administrator in the AEP Foundation, for the triennium 2013/2015.
From March 2007 until December 2013 he was the President of the Administration board of the Youth Foundation, and since then he is the President of its Advisory Board.
